In 1993, I designed SuniSea Multi-functional Food Processor and submitted it to the GoldStar International Design Competition. I won an Honorable Mention.

The logo for the ecologically friendly, multi-functional product includes two
concepts: (1) The Sun that gives energy to life and creation, and (2) the Sea that connects the Five Continents (a symbol of Globalization and multi-culturalism). This logo has become the trademark of my professional services.

Message from Edward Locke
Product designer, engineering technology teacher & Webmaster
I designed this website to share the following with educators, students, K-12 and college administrators and policy-makers, corporate managers and the general public:
(1) My product design projects completed at schools and in my professional practice (1994-present).
(2) My college-level textbook and instructional materials that I developed for engineering graphics/drafting, sheet-metal design, and industrial product design, during my employment as an instructor of engineering graphics at Santa Ana College Engineering Department and my graduate studies at California State University Los Angeles College of Engineering, Computer Science & Technology (2000-2007), as well as in the years after my graduation.
(3) My research and curriculum development endeavors in the area of K-12 STEM education, with a strong focus on engineering and technology, during my graduate studies as a National Center for Engineering and Technology Education Fellow funded by the National Science Foundation at the University of Georgia College of Education (2007-2009) as well as in the years after my graduation with an Education Specialist degree.
This website has been partially completed and will be constantly updated. Moving the mouse over each button at the top of the web pages will open the scroll-down lists for relevant web pages; and click the name listed will open the page. The contents of each tab are explained as follows.
(1) The HOME button leads to the HOME page (this page) with an explanation on how to navigate through this website.
(2) The ABOUT ME button leads to the web pages of (A) Resume & Design Samples, (B) Diplomas & Certificates with Transcripts, (C) Honors, (D) Teaching Philosophy & Pedagogy, (E) Ethics & Professional Standards, (F) Experiences & Approaches, and (G) Reasearch Interests & Development Plan.
(3) The PORTFOLIO button leads to the hosting pages, which lead to several categories of samples of creative design projects or design-related 3D modeling and 2D drafting skills demonstration samples. Moving the mouse over the name of the category will open up the list of samples. Alternatively, clicking the name of the category will open the hosting page for the samples. The categories and lists of samples are as follows: (A) Product Design (Multi-Functional Food Processor, Multi-Functional Food Cooking System, Space-saving Multi-functional Table Lamp, Refillable Tooth Brush, Portable Solar Cooker, Multi-functional Army Knife, Comfortable Ergonomic Hair Dryer, Energy-saving Tea Pot, Portable Tabletop & Stationery Box, Vacuum, Gardening Tools, Vehicle Styling, Digital Scale, Mail Box, Space-saving Folding Tables, and Other Design Ideas). (B) CADD Technology (SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Mechanical Desktop, and CATIA). (C) Fabrication & Prototyping Technology, (D) Technical Drawing & Illustration (Mechanical Drawing, Architectural & Interior Design Drawing, and Architectural & Interior Design Rendering). (D) Packaging Design (this page provides links to the relevant webpages to another of my websites at http://suniseadesign.weebly.com, which host many samples of product packaging graphics). (E) Fine Arts & Applied Design (this page provides links to the relevant webpages to another of my websites at http://suniseacreation.weebly.com, which host many samples of digital arts including 2D and 3D animation and videos).
(4) The EDUCATION button leads to the hosting pages for the following categories of STEAM-related instructional and curriculum materials: (A) College Engineering Curriculum Materials (FREE Online Descriptive Geometry & Sheet-metal Design Textbook, Interdisciplinary STEAM Curriculum, Engineering Course Materials). (B) K-12 Engineering Education (this page provides links to my research papers. published and unpublished, on the issue to K-12 engineering education, including a vision paper on K-12 engineering education reform, now hosted on the website of the Institute of Education Sciences (the research arm of the U.S. Department of Education). (C) Product Design & Innovation (FREE Online Industrial Product Design Textbook, and Forum on Green Product Design & Innovation).
In addition to the display of my art and design samples, procedures and techniques used in their creation are sometimes discussed and shared with the visitors; and in this case, Suggested Projects will be proposed for students or other viewers to try out and they will be invited to email their completed projects to me for possible publication in my website’s Student Works (for my students) or Submitted Projects page (for students of other colleges and universities as well as other visitors). Many samples and their original digital files constitute my personal collection of instructional materials for classroom demonstration on tools and skills with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Bryce, Painter, and others.
(4) The EXHIBITIONS button leads to: (A) New Product Design Projects page (for my new product design projects under various series as listed in the Research Interests & Development Plan, with a focus on ecologically-friendly, multi-functional, and upgradeable product design), (B) Students' Works page (for my students), and (C) Submitted Projects (for students from other colleges and universities or other visitors to this website, who are engaged in the Suggested Projects using the techniques explained in the project pages to be accessed from hosting pages under the PORTFOLIO category).
(5) The COMMUNITY button leads to (A) My Product Innovation Service, (B) My Mentors, (C) My Partners, (D) My Friends pages, and to (E) The New Eight Banners website. The My Service page explains the practices, procedures and policies of my technical, artistic and creative services for corporations, firms, institutions, organizations, and private individuals. The My Mentors page builds links to the websites of art and design educators, and practicing professionals, whose teaching and works give me inspiration in my creative career. The My Partners page builds links to websites or pages of current and potential associates in the SuniSea Products + Graphics Design team. The My Friends page builds links to websites or pages of my past, current and future friends in all walks of social life. The New Eight Banners website features articles on business issues related to professional services in the fields of traditional and digital arts and photography, and commercial graphic design, in terms of ethical and legal relationship between employer and employees, clients and independent contractors, service procedures, fees, policies and norms, copyright and others. They cover many topics in the pages of (A) Professional Ethics, (B) Corporate Citizenship (social and ecological responsibilities, relationship among corporations, labor unions, professional societies, government, and civil groups), and (C) Private Citizenship (rights and responsibilities of the individual in the modern societies). These pages are
primarily created for new college graduates from relevant disciplines as basic knowledge for job application and client recruitment, and for new entrepreneurs in needs of recruiting talented professionals and of creating good corporate image in the communities, but by no means constitutes any legal opinion or professional advice.
At the bottom of all web pages in this website, you can find my Contact Information, with instruction on how to contact me. Above the Contact Information, the Edward Locke's SuniSea Studio Important Websites and Webpages Navigator will guide you to the portfolio samples, research publication and professional service policy and procedure information, from all of my professional and public service websites.
